The idea of Water Footprint is yet another interesting way of quantifying how much of nature's resources one depletes when he or she consumes a certain crop or livestock.

See for yourself the contrast between consuming either.

The main intention is to show how much freshwater is used to produce selected products - hoping for people to rethink their consumption patterns. The visualization of nation’s footprints tries to draw the big picture and sensitize for local problems in different parts of the world.

Here's a great narrative on stuff, or something we should all watch before we decide to buy anything.

www.storyofstuff.com

And here's a dreadful revelation from the people that make us buy, buy, buy and buy:
"Our enormously productive economy... demands that we make consumption our way of life, that we convert the buying and use of goods into rituals, that we seek our spiritual satisfaction, our ego satisfaction, in consumption... We need things consumed, burned up, replaced and discarded at an ever-accelerating rate."

Add this on the fact that we have limited natural resources and you will know that we are headed for trouble.

Specially for Justin.

"As ambitious as anyone else after leaving my Junior College, I jump start my career in insurance with AIA. But merely 2 years in the society, I was diagnosed to have SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythemothosis). All my dreams just got flashed into the drain as I started my life staying in the hospital most of the time… At that point of time, I could not accept the truth and reality of my life and even myself. Not only I did not strive to improve my condition, I fell into depression, withdrawn and became suicidal.

Eventually, I started dialysis for 9 years due to kidney failure. Other complications came in like anemia, hypertension, atherosis, clotted aorta, PAD, heart attack, etc… (sounds scary? it was!) BUT most importantly, all these are past history!

Today, I’m a successful, happy, cheerful, loving and motivated inspirator! I live my dreams and enjoy every journey of my life. I cherish and appreciate everything I have, especailly my family, friends, beautiful feelings & memories…

I’ve jumped out of ill situation where life seems so impossible, and now, I want to help anyone that need to taste life again! Being an Ambassador of E.Excel International, my Mission is to bring the gift of health and knowledge to mankind. And my Vision is to see all the people around me living their life to the fullest!

You've probably seen this on Tomorrow.sg.
But I thought this is worth sharing.

Here's the truth about Singapore's slimming industry.

Yah, and if you want your girlfriend or wife to look like Christy Chung, you better bring her out for regular exercise, ok?

And yah, guys also make sure you all look as good as Men's Health cover models to ask for that.

LinkZooomr :: Experience the World Through PhotosNov 14, '06 11:31 AM

Could it be? Flickr's (near) full functionality at zero cost?
Zooomr works almost the same way as Flickr, but you can upload more than 200 photos. Unfortunately, each picture will be resized to 1024 pxiels on the long side. But if the photos are just for viewing purposes, I think it is sufficient.

Zooomr has got this SmartSet feature that allows you to group pictures (your own as well as others') by tagging pictures with certain tags and attributes. This, I feel is a plus as well as a minus. Plus because you do not need to have something like Flickr's Organizr and you can have more than 3. Minus because you need to be disciplined enough to include all your tags for all the pictures that you want to be included into a certain Set.

Unfortunately, Zooomr does not have an equivalent of the Flickr badge to feed photos to external sites.

Like Flickr, Zooomr allows users to leave comments on pictures, just like Flickr through the Add note. Zooomr even allows users to add a Portal, which will bring you to another webpage determined by you.

Zooomr is also fronting the GeoTagging functionality, which is in its beta stage on Flickr. (at least that was the case the last time I was using it)
For users who live in a miniscule country like Singapore, zoom in with satellite photos for more accuracy in GeoTagging.

The jUploadr tool for Zooomr is a joy to use. A simple drag and drop functionality that can also upload to Flickr. I used it on Mac and it works really well.

As much as Zooomr seems like a good alternative to Flickr, do note that Zooomr is essentially still in the beta stage of development. Many business strategies have not been mapped out. Certain areas of its website are not accessible at all, like "turning professional" where it leads you to the introduction page.

Still, I recommend using Zooomr, especially if you are a cheapo like me, and provided you do have a back up of your photos. Goodness knows what Zooomr would do when it completes it beta stage.

So keep your fingers crossed!
